Tasmania’s newest big cat, a Sri Lankan Leopard, had touched down at Tasmania Zoo.
Banduka is nearly 2-years-old and recently made his way to the state from Darling Downs Zoo in Queensland, where he was bred.
Tasmania Zoo manager Rochelle Penney told Pulse the zoo just out of Launceston is one of only three in Australia that has been selected to take part in a European managed breeding program for the species.
“He has been settling into his new home here at Tasmania Zoo and is now out and about waiting to greet everyone,” Penney said.
“It is a fantastic opportunity for Tasmanians to come and visit and see this beautiful species and learn about his wild counterparts and the threat they face in the wild. There are less than 1,000 left in the wild.”
Banduka will be joining other fascinating animals at the zoo, including Sumatran tigers, red pandas and silvery gibbons.
