St Helens will be left with just half a dozen restaurants next week as the owners of ‘the best Japanese spot in town’ prepare to call it quits.

The East Coast town and tourist hotspot will say goodbye to Raida with “great sadness” at the end of the week after two years of trading.

“This has been a terribly difficult decision and we want to extend a huge thanks to all of our wonderful staff, suppliers and local community supporters who helped make the business what it is today,” the owners said.

“It’s been an adventure…”

The news of Raida’s closure has shocked many St Helens locals, especially considering the ‘already limited food options’ available in the town.

“We will miss the great service and hospitality. Wishing all the staff and John all the very best in their future endeavours. Thanks for all the good times,” Nette Devine wrote online.

Linda Smith said “Raida is the main reason” she visits St Helens.

The restaurant will serve their last meals on Saturday night.
