The small north-west Tasmanian town of Stanley has been named one of the best tourist destinations in Australia.
The town finished eighth in the Wotif 2024 Aussie Town of the Year Awards.
“Take a stroll through time in this coastal town with its preserved cottages and historic landmarks,” the winning overview reads.
“Explore the 1830s Highfield Historic Site, wander the Stanley Heritage Walk, and delve into the Stanley Discovery Museum to learn about the area’s history.”
“All while the iconic Stanley Nut provides the perfect backdrop. Don’t forget your camera!”
Other towns to make the top 10 include Bendigo, Broken Hill, Stanthorpe, Katherine, Bathurst, Griffith, Exmouth and Coober Pedy.
In June last year, Stanley was named as the state’s Top Tiny Town by the Tourism Industry Council of Tasmania.
