Tasmania’s 35-seat House of Assembly has been confirmed after a marathon two-week count, with the Liberal Party holding onto its 14 seats and Labor retaining 10.

While both major parties kept the same number of seats, some sitting MPs were ousted by fresh faces. The real shake-up came from several independents scoring wins across the state.

The final numbers stand at 14 seats for the Liberals, 10 for Labor, five for the Greens, five independents and one for the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party.

Independents made their mark in key electorates, with Launceston councillor George Razay clinching a crucial victory in Bass.

Bass was the nail-biter of the election, with Razay and Labor’s Jess Greene claiming the last two seats after a drawn-out and complex count.

Greene secured the seventh seat by a whisker, just 261 votes ahead of Labor’s Geoff Lyons.
