What started as daily walks for a 26-year-old Hobart bartender has grown into a social media sensation, shining a spotlight on the people and moments that define life in the city.
The photographer, known as Jacko, began his daily habit 68 days ago as a personal challenge to improve his street photography skills and document it.
His casual photography has evolved into a mission to celebrate Hobart’s diverse personalities.
“I’ve always been interested in photography and thought I’d just document the journey and make a couple of videos about the people of Hobart,” Jacko told Pulse.

His project focuses on capturing positive, authentic moments rather than sensationalised content.
Jacko spends four to five hours each day walking through the city, camera in hand.

“I can’t stress enough how important it is to make sure that I’m making the content in a positive way,” he said.
“I actually want to make sure that people are presented in a really positive way because I think that Tasmanians are quite proud of being from Tassie.”
His Instagram following has exploded to more than 5,000 followers in recent weeks, with videos featuring the conversations with subjects of his portraits proving most popular with audiences.
The Hobart local, who has lived in the city for 14 years after growing up in Launceston, sees his work as countering negative perceptions of Tasmania.

“We often get ostracised by the rest of Australia. I think it was more to show off all the different characters that we have and celebrate them,” he said.
While maintaining his bartending job, Jacko has aspirations in photojournalism and hopes to eventually tell stories around the world.
For now, he remains focused on his daily commitment to documenting Hobart.
“I love the people of Hobart and I love being a vessel to get the people out there,” he said.

“Hobart and Tassie deserve to be shown off.”
