Spectacular lightning strikes have illuminated the night sky across Hobart overnight as a brief storm moved over the state.
Hobart Airport’s Senior Operations Officer, Cam, captured incredible images of the storm over the airport around 5am.

The photos show strong lightning bolts cracking in the sky as planes sit idle on the tarmac.
Hundreds of lightning bolts were recorded across the state, moving from the north-west to the south-east.

In the greater Hobart area, approximately 5mm of rain fell between 5am and 9am, while strong winds have continued into the afternoon.
A gust of 109km/h was recorded on the summit of Kunanyi/Mt Wellington at 3:25pm, with another a gust of 87km/h recorded in Hobart City at 4pm.
