An international student has been identified as the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash in Hobart’s northern suburbs earlier this week.
The 21-year-old died after losing control of his recently purchased motorbike while learning to ride in the MyState Bank Arena car park on Monday night.
Police said the young man was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a critical condition, but later died from his injuries.
Devi Sharma, President of the All Indians Association, said the student’s sudden death has deeply shaken the international student community.
He said he rushed to the scene on the night of the crash after receiving a call from one of the student’s friends.

“We all hoped and prayed for his recovery as he was taken to the hospital … it broke my heart to hear that he had passed away,” he said.
“A young life, full of dreams and potential, has ended far too soon.”
“In this painful time, let us come together in solidarity, prayer and support and work to ensure better safety and awareness for our young people in shared public spaces.”
A report is being prepared for the coroner, as police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
