A $74 million investment in Hobart’s Northern Suburbs has been officially unveiled today, with Brighton High School celebrating its official opening with students, staff and community members.

The new high school, which began operating at the start of Term 1 this year, welcomed its first cohort of Year 7 and 11 students.

Education Minister Jo Palmer said she is thrilled to have seen the school come together.

“It’s been wonderful to celebrate with students, staff and the broader community, and see the positive impact the school is having on the region,” Palmer said.

“The facility has been shaped by extensive consultation with students, educators and the community, and I’m excited to see the school community continue to flourish in the years to come.”

The school gymnasium has been named after the late Tony Foster AM OAM, former Mayor of Brighton, who was a passionate advocate for building a new high school in the area.

The project is part of a broader government initiative to enhance educational infrastructure across Southern Tasmania, which includes major upgrades at Cosgrove High School, Hobart City High School and Cambridge Primary School.
