Suspicious fire destroys vacant Bridgewater home

A suspicious fire has gutted an unoccupied house in Bridgewater overnight, with police launching an investigation into the blaze that caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.

Emergency services responded to the property on Cheswick Crescent around 8:55pm on Wednesday following reports that the structure was engulfed in flames.

Tasmania Fire Service crews successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring properties.

Police have confirmed the house was vacant when the fire broke out and believe it had been unoccupied for some time.

The blaze has left behind a trail of destruction with damage estimated at approximately $350,000.

Tasmania Police are appealing for public assistance, urging anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area or who has information about the fire to come forward, quoting report number 779614.
