Sustainable Timber Tasmania (STT) has paused logging plans in two areas of the Dial Range, south-west of Ulverstone.
The state-owned forestry agency has confirmed that harvesting in the northern section of coupe DL011A has been halted due to “identified operational constraints”.
In an email update to stakeholders, STT explained that one of the main challenges was establishing road access to the coupe.
“This means that DL011A will not be included in the annual update to our Three Year Wood Production Plan, to be released to the public in July 2025,” the email said.
“There is a possibility that in future years we may decide to reinclude
DL011A in our Three Year Wood Production Plan.”
Harvesting in nearby coupe DL011C has been pushed back to early next year to “consider natural values and to confirm final boundaries”.
“As forest operations for this coupe need to be conducted in dry weather conditions, the next opportunity to undertake forest harvesting operations at DL011C will be in early 2026,” STT said.
The wider Dial Range area is a popular recreation destination and has been the focus of community action in recent years.
