Young performers from Old Nick’s Hobart Theatre Summer School are getting ready for a musical journey on the S.S. American with a special serenade for ferry commuters.

The talented cast performed a selection of songs from the toe-tapping musical Anything Goes as people arrived in Hobart on the Derwent Ferry services from Bellerive on Tuesday.

The production, featuring 44 young theatrical talents aged 15 to 19 from across Hobart, will take to the stage at the Don Bosco Performing Arts Centre at Guilford Young College for eight shows only from January 31.

The musical follows passengers aboard an ocean cruise travelling from New York to London during the Depression.

18-year-old performer Davina Cox, who has taken on the role of nightclub singer Reno Sweeney, said the show is ‘all about love’.

“There are so many laughs and it’s so heartfelt,” she said.

“It’s nice to do a show where we’re all friends both behind the scenes and also on stage,” she said.

19-year-old Cate Watchorn shares the role with Cox and said the production had rekindled her love for theatre.

“I did theatre growing up but had a bit of a break. This show … brings crafts, energy – and it’s such a fun group of people to perform with,” she said.

Tickets for the show are available on the Old Nick website.
