TasInsure will be “set up and in operation” next year if the Liberal Party wins next weekend’s state election.
Braddon candidate Felix Ellis says a re-elected Liberal government would introduce legislation to create the state-owned insurer within 100 days.
“We’ve seen an overwhelming amount of community support for TasInsure and the cheaper insurance it will offer all Tasmanians,” he said.
The party has touted savings of up to $250 since unveiling TasInsure, a figure Labor says isn’t backed by any evidence and could mislead people.

Labor has already tried to put the brakes on the plan, with leader Dean Winter calling for it to be scrapped on the day it was announced.
Labor candidate Luke Martin has also written to the federal government, asking for an investigation into what he believes could be deceptive conduct by the Liberals.

Adding to the drama, former Labor premier Paul Lennon has swooped in, registering the TasInsure name and telling the Liberals to stop using it.
But all this has left the Liberals undeterred.
“We won’t allow Labor’s political games to stand in the way of real cost of living relief,” Ellis said.
“While they continue to play political games, we want to get on with the job of delivering cheaper and fairer insurance.”
