Hobart’s eastern shore has seen a flurry of arrests this week, with 22 people charged by police and 18 theft cases cleared in just five days.
‘Taskforce Accountable’ executed six arrest warrants and laid charges ranging from stealing and assault to burglary and firearms offences. 12 youths and 10 adults faced court.
The operation targeted transit hubs and shopping centres in the Clarence area, where police say anti-social behaviour has been disrupting shoppers and commuters.
Inspector Andrew Keane said the taskforce would ramp up patrols through the Christmas period.
“This time of year should be about enjoying shopping and time with family, not worrying about crime,” he said.

The team is using both high-visibility patrols and undercover operations to catch offenders.
“Their proactive, low-tolerance approach is already making a strong impact, ensuring that people can shop and travel without disruption,” Keane said.
Other charges included breach of bail, motor vehicle theft and disorderly conduct.
Inspector Keane said the message to would-be offenders was clear.
“If you come to our public spaces to steal or cause trouble, expect to be caught,” he said.
The taskforce’s focus on the eastern shore comes as retailers prepare for their busiest trading period of the year.
It mirrors similar initiatives – Taskforce Saturate in Hobart and Taskforce Respect in Glenorchy.
“This team is about being seen and being effective,” Inspector Keane said.
Police are urging anyone who witnesses illegal or anti-social behaviour to call 131 444 or Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.
