Updated 10:55am, Friday September 20: The driver of a truck that rolled on the state’s east coast this morning has been cut free from the vehicle.
The truck crashed on the Tasman Highway north of Falmouth around 6am on Friday.
Police said the driver was being airlifted to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a serious condition.
Diversions will remain in place for several more hours while the truck is towed from the scene.
Earlier: The Tasman Highway on the East Coast has been shut in both directions following a truck rollover north of Falmouth this morning.
Emergency services are at the scene north of the intersection with Esk Main Road and say the road is expected to remain closed for several hours.
“Specialist vehicles are attending to assist in extrication of the driver,” police said.
“The condition of the driver is unknown at this time.”
The rescue helicopter has also been dispatched to the scene.
Southbound traffic from St Helens is being diverted along Upper Scamander Road, onto Semmens Road to St Marys.
Northbound traffic is being asked to travel the same route in reverse.
“This is a gravel road, so motorists will need to take caution,” police warned.
