Tasmania Devils bolster executive team with appointment of Michael Thorn

The Tasmania Football Club has secured experienced AFL operations specialist Michael Thorn as its new General Manager Infrastructure and Commercial Development, as the club continues preparations for its entry to national competitions.

Thorn brings extensive experience in procurement, logistics and operational planning from his time at the AFL, where he managed major projects including Gather Round logistics and AFL Travel.

Tasmania FC CEO Brendon Gale said Thorn’s arrival strengthens the club’s capability to deliver on key strategic initiatives.

“Michael will be a significant addition to our team. He brings highly relevant skills and experience to our team for several key projects for the Club,” Gale said.

“The timing of this appointment is so important to us, with many strategic projects now starting to gain great momentum.”

In his new role, Thorn will oversee the development of the club’s Training and Administration Facility at Kingborough Sports Precinct, identify commercial development opportunities and lead strategic procurement projects.

He will also support the delivery of facilities for Tasmania’s entry into the VFL and VFLW competitions.

Thorn said he has been following the Devils’ journey closely.

“I’ve been impressed with the momentum of the Club and the way Brendon and the team are building something special,” he said.

“The opportunity to bring my skills and experience to these exciting projects is huge, I can’t wait to get down there and get moving with the team.”

Thorn will commence his role on November 3.
