The Tasmania Devils have suffered a blow before the first bounce of their season, with captain Robbie Fox to miss Saturday’s historic VFL season opener against Coburg as he continues recovering from a calf injury.

The injury is a setback for the Devils as they prepare for their first VFL season ahead of Saturday’s match at North Hobart Oval.

“Robbie sustained a low-grade calf strain during a recovery run and is progressing well through rehabilitation and his return-to-run program,” Brosnan said.

“He is expected to return in 2-3 weeks.”

Fox also didn’t play in the Devils practice match against Werribee earlier this month, with Jye Menzie captaining the Devils in his place.

Menzie is now expected to captain the Devils as they play Coburg in Hobart this Saturday.
