The Tasmania Football Club has taken another significant step towards its AFL future by appointing Jeromey Webberley as its inaugural VFL coach.
The appointment marks a major milestone for the club as it builds momentum towards entries into both the VFL and VFLW competitions, ahead of its AFL debut in 2028.
Webberley, a Tasmanian who grew up in Tea Tree in the state’s south, brings substantial local knowledge and coaching experience to the role.
Head of VFL and VFLW Aaron Pidgeon said the club was thrilled with the appointment.
“We believe Jeromey is the ideal coach to develop our emerging talent as we embark on our AFL list build leading into 2028,” Pidgeon said.

“Jeromey’s experience, track record, passion for Tasmania, existing relationships in the football industry and willingness to embrace the unique challenges presented by a state-wide program, positioned him as an outstanding candidate for this position.”
Webberley began his coaching career with Clarence in the TSL in 2016 and has coached the Tasmania Devils Coates League program since 2021.
His playing career included a TSL premiership with Clarence in 2009, where he also won Association Player of the Year honours, before being drafted to Richmond with pick 67 in the 2009 National Draft.
“I feel incredibly humbled, grateful and honoured to be given the opportunity to coach the inaugural Tasmania Devils VFL team,” Webberley said.
“I recognise the magnitude and significance of this role, as well as the work that lies ahead.”

“Like all Tasmanians, I’ll be rolling up my sleeves and giving my absolute best for our state.”
The club is still recruiting for its inaugural VFLW coach, with an appointment expected in the coming months as the AFLW season is still underway.
