Tasmania Police Sergeant accused of assault with indecent intent stood down

Tasmania Police have stood down a Sergeant from the state’s north after he was charged with assault with indecent intent.

The 52-year-old man will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court next month over the alleged incident, which police said occurred in July 2023.

“The officer was not on duty at the time,” a police spokesperson said.

“It is not appropriate to make any further comment given the matter is now before the court.”

According to the Police Offences Act, a person who, with indecent intent, assaults any other person can be fined a maximum of $9,750 or sentenced to up to two years imprisonment.
