Tasmanians are gearing up for a night of dazzling fireworks displays and festivities to ring in the New Year.
In the state capital, the City of Hobart will host two spectacular fireworks shows that will light up the night sky across the CBD, Sandy Bay and the Eastern Shore.
The displays will take place at 9:30pm and midnight, each lasting for eight minutes and launched from barges on the River Derwent.
The Waterfront is an ideal viewing spot, while the Regatta Grounds will offer a designated car-free viewing area with food vendors, lighting and toilets.
Sandy Bay’s Long Beach and the Rosny Hill Lookout are also recommended for clear views of the fireworks.
Launceston will host two firework shows, an earlier one at twilight for families and a midnight display for adults.
The twilight fireworks will commence around 9:30pm and will be visible across the city, with the best viewing spots within Royal Park.
In the north-west, Devonport’s ‘Eve in the City’ event will feature fireworks displays at 9:30pm and midnight.
Burnie will combine fireworks with a unique drone show across the sky at 9:30pm and midnight.
To ensure a smooth and safe New Year’s Eve celebration, Metro and MAIB are offering half-price bus fares and extra Nightrider services in Burnie, Launceston and Hobart.
MAIB CEO Paul Kingston said it’s important partygoers get home safely.
“Helping to prevent death and serious injury on our roads is of critical importance to the MAIB,” he said.
Metro CEO Katie Cooper is reminding everyone that road safety is a shared responsibility.
“So, as a public transport operator, we are pleased to once again provide this important transport option to get people home safely,” she said.
