Tasmanian artist Jamin has transformed a wall in Centre Court at the Domain Tennis Centre into a vibrant explosion of colour, paying tribute to four star athletes who have competed in past tournaments.

Elise Mertens, Angie Cunningham, Serena Williams and Amy Frazier are now immortalised in the new display, ‘interconnected through a single, long stroke of a tennis racket’ in shades of purple, pink, orange and yellow.

Jamin says the mural’s theme is centred around capturing the essence of “poise” and the “moment within a moment”.

“That period of time where a split second extends into something almost tangible, before it is gone,” he said.

“Tennis can be like this. Art can be like this. And so on with music and dance.”

Jamin dedicated around nine days and used 50 cans of paint to complete the mural.

He hopes that those who look up at it will not only experience a sense of joy and celebration, but will also understand the ‘beautiful idea of poise’.

One of the athletes featured in the mural is Angie Cunningham, a Launceston athlete who sadly passed away in 2016 after battling motor neurone disease.
