A Tasmanian butcher has been left reeling after thieves stole over $6,000 worth of meat from his business.
Imadul Islam Rahat, director of Tasmanian Prime Meat in Hobart’s northern suburbs, said he was shocked to find more than a dozen boxes of chicken, lamb and goat missing from his storage containers over the weekend.
Rahat said the alleged thieves managed to gain access to the stash of meat by cutting through locks.
“This has deeply affected our staff and the entire Prime Meat family and we are devastated by the loss,” a post on their Facebook page read.
“We’ve managed to capture some images from our CCTV of the burglars responsible for this and we are working closely with the authorities.”
The incident left Rahat feeling disheartened and questioning his future as a business owner.
“We’ve been overwhelmed by the messages of support and offers of help from our loyal customers,” he said.
“Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.”
“What we need most right now is your continued business. That’s the best way you can help us get back on our feet during this difficult time.”
Tasmania Police have charged two men, a 33-year-old from Goodwood and a 36-year-old from Brighton, with stealing and burglary in relation to the incident.
