Founded in 1944 by brothers Don and Rowley Hazell, the company has grown into one of Tasmania’s most significant civil construction firms, specialising in civil construction, quarries and concrete.

Winch highlighted the broader importance of Tasmania’s civil construction sector to the state economy.

“Tasmania’s Civil Construction sector is the backbone of Tasmania’s economy, worth over $2 billion a year, employing over 2,000 people directly and literally building the infrastructure which keeps Tasmania moving.”

With discussions of potential budget constraints looming, Winch cautioned against cutting infrastructure spending.

“It is vital that … that cut-backs aren’t made to building the productive infrastructure which keeps Tasmania’s economy moving.”

Other award winners included Zanetto Civil, Group Cato, L&K Contracting, Lynette Richards of Batchelor Construction Group, Batchelor Construction Group for Digital Technology, and Gradco for Safety at Roadworks.
