Dangerous Animals follows an Australian tourist guide with a shark obsession that leads him to commit heinous acts.

The film stars Australian actor Jai Courtney, known for blockbusters like ‘Terminator Genisys’ and ‘Suicide Squad’, alongside American actor Hassie Harrison and Australian talents Josh Heuston and Ella Newton.

Filmed on the Gold Coast, the production incorporates footage of real sharks blended with dramatic action sequences, creating what critics describe as a “rich and unsettling aural experience”.

The film is a continuation of Byrne’s success in the horror genre, following his debut feature “The Loved Ones”, which won the People’s Choice Award at Toronto’s Midnight Madness strand in 2009.

The film’s US distribution has been secured through IFC and Shudder, the same partners who released Byrne’s previous work Devil’s Candy.

Australian audiences won’t have to wait long to experience the underwater terror, with Dangerous Animals set to hit cinemas nationwide on 12 June.
