A Tasmanian obstetrician has been charged with sexual offences allegedly committed over a three-year period, with police investigating additional related allegations.
The specialist doctor faces one count of indecent assault and one count of assault with indecent intent, with the alleged offences occurring in 2022 and 2025 in the Hobart area.
Detectives from Tasmania Police’s Family and Sexual Violence Division laid the charges today following an investigation into the doctor’s conduct.
The man had already been stood down by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) before formal charges were filed, police said.
He is scheduled to appear before Hobart Magistrates Court in September.
Police have confirmed they are investigating other alleged sexual-related offences involving the same practitioner.
The nature and scope of these additional allegations have not been disclosed.
“It is acknowledged that alleged offences of this nature are deeply disturbing,” a spokesperson said.
“Tasmania Police encourages anyone with information about sexual abuse to come forward and report, regardless of the passage of time.”
