Tasmanian-born Australian institution Banjo’s Bakery Cafe has just celebrated its 40th anniversary.
Having opened their first Banjo’s store in Launceston in 1984 and second location in Hobart the year after, the company has now grown to over 45 stores.
CEO Jessica Saxby said the business was constantly being reinvested in to ensure it is “evolving and changing with the times”.
“[We want to be] making sure that we’re exceeding our customers’s expectations,” she said.

The franchise now employs 1,500 staff across the country and prides itself on having developed over 100 unique recipes since its inception in Launceston.
Post-anniversary celebrations, which include handing out thousands of free sausage rolls nationwide, Saxby hinted at two new ‘top secret’ products that would be launching soon.

Banjo’s opened their newest and 28th Tasmanian store in August 2022 on Augusta Road in Lenah Valley.
In contrast, local competitor Bakers Delight closed three of their Hobart bakery stores in early 2023 after they were forced into voluntary liquidation.
At the time, Banjo’s encouraged employees affected by the closure to reach out and explore opportunities with their own stores.
