Two Tasmanian SES Flood Unit specialists have been deployed to New South Wales to support emergency response efforts following floods that have damaged more than 10,000 properties and claimed five lives.
Flood mapper Joshua Torrisi and flood analyst Kate Kiseleva departed Hobart this morning for a five-day deployment to the Hunter Valley, where they will provide intelligence support for ongoing flood operations.
The pair will serve within the SES incident management team, analysing rainfall and river conditions to inform emergency responses in the hard-hit mid-North Coast and Hunter regions.
Their role involves providing expert advice on current and future flood behaviour, directly informing public warnings and guiding on-ground response efforts by emergency services.

“It is a similar role to what they performed in the SES State Operations Centre in Tasmania in August and September last year,” a Tasmania SES spokesperson said.
During that period, the specialists helped coordinate responses to severe weather events that caused widespread damage throughout Tasmania, including significant flooding in the Derwent Valley.

The deployment comes as NSW grapples with one of its most significant flood disasters in recent years, with thousands of residents affected across multiple communities.
Tasmania SES continues to monitor the situation closely and remains prepared to consider any additional requests for assistance that may come through the National Resource Sharing Centre.
