The Tasmanian Greens have unveiled their key lineup of familiar candidates for the next state election, aiming to “green-up this island’s parliament.”

Leader Rosalie Woodruff will stand in Franklin, while the current MP Vica Bayley will strive for a seat in Clark. Cecily Rosol will represent Bass, Dr Darren Briggs in Braddon and Tabatha Badger in Lyons.

All have run in previous state and federal elections.

The announcement follows Premier Jeremy Rockliff’s ultimatum to two ‘rouge Liberal-turned-independent’ MPs, giving them the choice of accepting a new agreement with the government or face an early election.

“I’m so proud to be leading this incredible, powerhouse team. Everyone on our ticket understands a fairer, healthier and Greener future is possible for lutruwita/Tasmania and has spent their lives working towards it,” Woodruff said.

“I’m so excited, and so proud, to be taking on my first election campaign as Greens’ Leader. I’ve learnt from experience, and from the wisdom of my predecessors.”

Reflecting on his time in parliament since he was elected in August following the resignation of Cassy O’Connor, Bayley described the last six months as “a whirlwind”.

“Clark is a vibrant, warm electorate, but its people are struggling with the housing and cost of living crisis. We’ve been doing everything I can to ease the pressure on those families, and to protect the wild places they love,” he said.
