A up-and-coming indie pop rock band from Hobart are over the moon after landing their first play on national youth radio station Triple J.
Middle Palms shared their excitement on Instagram after Triple J Summer Nights host Anika Luna played their song ‘Runaway Girl’ on Thursday evening.
“Thanks so much Anika Luna for spinning our tune last night,” the band wrote.
Someone texted in a request for the new song, which was then played on the radio station.
“I’ve had so many texts pour in [wanting to hear] an act that comes from Tasmania, and they’re called Middle Palms,” the host said on-air.
“Someone texting in saying Middle Palms have just released a ripper new singer called Runaway Girl which I’d love to hear if possible.”
“They’re a small band from Hobart Tasmania who are on the come up and I reckon this is their first play on Triple J.”
The band, made up of Sam Sherlock on vocals, Floyd Taylor on guitar, Charlie Wilkinson on bass and Callum Waller on drums, formed in high school.
They describe their sound as a mix of “smooth vocals and catchy riffs with an additional mix of reggae grooves”.
Middle Palms cite influences from Coldplay, The Whitlams and Ocean Alley and have a growing fanbase.
The band regularly gigs around Tasmanian venues and has their sights set on the festival circuit.
