Liberal frontbencher Nick Duigan will step back from his portfolios for two months to undergo heart surgery.
The Windermere MLC announced on Monday he would take medical leave from February 17, with an expected return on April 12.
Duigan holds the energy and renewables, parks and sport portfolios in the Rockliff government.
“This is a good chance to remind everyone to trust your gut,” he said.
“If you feel like something isn’t right, get it checked and don’t let pride get in the way.”

Three cabinet colleagues will share responsibility for his portfolios during recovery.
Madeleine Ogilvie will take charge of parks, while Guy Barnett will lead energy and renewables. Gavin Pearce will handle sport.
Duigan said it would be “business as usual” while he recovered, with his colleagues continuing to deliver for Tasmania across his portfolios.
“I want to thank my colleagues for their support during this time and the community for their understanding,” he said.
Duigan’s return date remains contingent on his recovery progress.
