A Tasmanian Independent MP will miss the next sitting of parliament due to a serious back injury.

Former Liberal member John Tucker is reportedly receiving treatment for his injuries in the hospital and is ‘unable to communicate’ with anyone.

His absence poses challenges for the Rockliff government ahead of the return of the parliament on Tuesday, with talk of an early election following the resignation of Attorney-General Elise Archer.

Labor is contemplating a no-confidence motion against the government but has agreed to provide a pair.

Tucker and Lara Alexander, another former Liberal-turned-independent, had previously pledged their support to the Liberals on matters of confidence.
