Snow has fallen across many elevated parts of Tasmania this morning as temperatures plummet across the island.
Ben Lomond in the Northern Midlands has been coated with a white dusting and is forecasted to reach a maximum of just five degrees on Wednesday.
Locals say the taste of winter weather marks the first significant snowfall of the year.
The Bureau of Meteorology are forecasting showers about the west, south and north-east, with mainly fine weather across the rest of the state.
“A westerly stream has developed in the wake of a cold front now to the east due to a ridge that extends over northern Tasmania,” the BOM said.
“The ridge will weaken on Friday as a weak trough approaches and crosses the south of the state. The ridge is expected to redevelop over northern Tasmania on Saturday.”
The warmest part of the state, Swan Island in the north-east, is currently just 16 degrees.
