Politicians from across Tasmania’s political divide have joined forces to launch a statewide push to collect unused phones for domestic violence survivors.
Greens MP Tabatha Badger, Liberal MP Jane Howlett, Labor MP Meg Brown and Independent MP Kristie Johnston announced the collaboration overnight.
They’re calling on every state and federal MP to host DV Safe Phone collection boxes in their offices.
The program gathers unused mobile phones, wipes them clean and passes them on to people experiencing domestic violence so they have a safe way to call for help.
“Some things are bigger than politics. This is absolutely one of them,” the MPs said.

“Today, we’re standing together, united against family violence.”
The phones give victim-survivors a way to contact emergency services, reach support organisations like 1800RESPECT or connect with family and friends.
“Together, we can make a difference in the lives of Australians who need us the most,” the MPs said.
“And we’d love your help to do it.”
Tasmanians can drop off old mobile phones at participating MP offices, as well as at council chambers and other collection points.
