Heavy rainfall has resulted in significant disruptions to several roads across Tasmania this morning.
Binalong Bay Road has been shut after more than one metre of water inundated the causeway overnight, while Fortescue Bay Road is impassable due to sinkholes and landslides.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) issued eight flood warnings for various parts of the state, including watch and act alerts for sections of the South Esk River and St Pauls River.
A severe weather warning for damaging winds and heavy rainfall has also been cancelled, with the Bureau of Meteorology expecting showers to redevelop on Monday.
“A low pressure system off the west coast of Tasmania will travel to the south today, with heavy rainfall and damaging winds no longer expected,” the BOM said.
“The immediate threat of severe weather has passed, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary.”
The BOM reports that some areas have received significant rainfall in the past few hours.
36.4mm fell at Copping in three hours to 3:49am on Sunday, 48.2mm was recorded at Great Lake East in three hours to 2:59am, 106mm at St Patricks Head in seven hours to 2:14am and 88.8mm at Gray in three hours to 1:59am.
High winds were also present across the state overnight, with gusts of 87km/h recorded at Tasman Island Airport at 3:24am, 93km/h at Cape Grim on Saturday at 9:55pm and 81km/h in Burnie at 8:50pm.
