Tasmanian shipbuilder secures $35m contract to build Sydney river ferries

A Tasmanian company has secured a contract to construct seven ferries to be deployed in Sydney.

Richardson Devine Marine, a shipbuilder based in Hobart, has been awarded the tender for building the vessels, marking a major coup for the company and the state.

The ferries, which will be destined for the Parramatta River, are being constructed with an investment of nearly $50 million from the New South Wales Government.

Toby Richardson from Richardson Devine Marine expressed his satisfaction in the company’s achievements.

“We pride ourselves over the last 34 years of progressively developing our company to build high quality, long lasting true life logical passenger ferries”.

Construction is set to begin within weeks.
