Education Minister Jo Palmer said the resources would make “a real difference” for both students and teachers.

“We want every child in every classroom to have the skills they need for life and that starts with structured, evidence-based literacy instruction,” Palmer said.

“The initiative will reduce the workload on teachers by providing both curriculum support and classroom-ready resources.”

Year 7 teachers will soon receive class sets of the novel “Lenny’s Book of Everything”, with similar teaching materials and texts to be distributed to all government schools from Term 4, ahead of the 2026 school year.

Literacy specialist Emma Harradine praised the Ochre Education subscription for its comprehensive approach.

“The planning has been done by the Ochre platform. That means teachers aren’t having to spend hours and hours outside of school time to plan and prepare for lessons,” Harradine said.

“It means that teachers are able to work with the class more directly… the teacher’s able to think more about how [to] support every single student.”

According to Harradine, the program has already shown positive results in classrooms where it has been implemented.

“We’ve seen a huge improvement in engagement of students. They’re active participants in their learning,” she said.
