A beloved Tasmanian youth facility is about to receive a significant upgrade through the upcoming state budget.
Camp Clayton at Ulverstone, which has hosted thousands of Tasmanian youth over its 75-year history, will undergo extensive renovations thanks to a $520,000 funding package.
The investment, included in the 2025-26 Budget, will fund new outdoor adventure infrastructure, road upgrades, bathroom renovations, accessibility improvements and a transition to sustainable energy sources.
“For the past 75 years, Camp Clayton has welcomed tens of thousands of Tasmanians through its gates, providing young people with the opportunity to learn independence, leadership, life skills and self-worth,” Rockliff said during his visit to the camp.

Independent Member for Braddon, Miriam Beswick, who endorsed the funding application, called it “a wonderful outcome for a much-loved North West organisation”.
“Costs for the camp have increased dramatically in recent years, so this support will provide the team the confidence it needs to plan for future,” Beswick said.

The not-for-profit camp has established itself as an important venue for school excursions and community group activities across Tasmania’s northwest region.
Camp Clayton CEO Melle Zwerver described the funding as “a game changer” that represented more than just physical improvements.
“Securing this funding is more than just a win for our site – it’s a vote of confidence in the power of camps to build resilience, connection and lifelong memories for the next generation,” Zwerver said.
