Tasmanians are being warned of milk shortages across the state today after a major Hobart processing plant suffered a mechanical failure.

The Bega Group’s Lenah Valley facility, which produces popular brands including Pura, Betta and Pyengana, has experienced what sources describe as a serious mechanical fault that has taken the site offline.

The breakdown is understood to have halted production for at least 24 hours, impacting milk supplies throughout Tasmania.

A Bega Group spokesperson confirmed the disruption in a statement to Pulse.

“Bega Group can confirm temporary production delays at our site in Lenah Valley,” the spokesperson said.

“The Tasmanian market may see stock shortages of regular and flavoured milk on shelves for a short period of time, however our team is actively working to return to full capacity as quickly as possible.”
