Tasmanians honoured for community service in King’s Birthday awards

Eighteen Tasmanians have been recognised in the King's Birthday 2025 Honours List

Eighteen Tasmanians have been recognised for their outstanding contributions to the community in the King’s Birthday 2025 Honours List.

The list celebrates individuals who have made significant impacts across various fields including humanitarian work, education, wildlife conservation and local government.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff praised the recipients for their dedication to serving the Tasmanian community.

“Tasmanians are so often quiet achievers, going about their days doing extraordinary work to support our community,” Rockliff said.

Albert van Zetten was honoured for his significant service to local government

“The King’s Birthday Honours is a special opportunity to recognise the work and commitments Tasmanians are making across our State in a range of fields.”

Four Tasmanians were appointed as Members of the Order of Australia (AM), including Roslyn Cornish for her service to early childhood education administration and Albert van Zetten for significant service to local government and the community.

Adrian Kelly was recognised for his leadership in the real estate sector

Adrian Kelly received the honour for leadership in the real estate sector, while Dr David Law was recognised for his contributions to public health.

Thirteen people were awarded Medals of the Order of Australia (OAM), including three posthumous recipients: Robert Allen for humanitarian roles, Peter Cox for service to the George Town community, and Reginald Watson for his dedication to history.

Conservation efforts were acknowledged with OAMs for Dr Tonia Cochran and Lesley Kurek for their environmental work, while Craig Webb was honoured for wildlife conservation.

Other OAM recipients included community music advocate Joseph Cook, educator Mary Koolhof, rugby union contributor Anthony Kube, and lawn bowls stalwart John (Leigh) McAdam.

Commander Stephen Burk received a Meritorious Award for his outstanding service with Tasmania Police.

“The 18 fantastic Tasmanians honoured have made significant contributions to our State, and I am incredibly proud to celebrate their achievements,” Rockliff said.
