Tasmania’s first seniors exercise park opens to promote ‘active ageing’ in Clarence

Clarence has become home to the first seniors exercise park in the state, providing older adults with a new space for outdoor physical activity.

The $295,000 facility at Simmons Park in Lindisfarne features 17 types of senior-specific exercise equipment, encouraging movement for life.

The equipment includes balance beams, stairs, pull-up bars, core twisters, finger stairs, pedal benches and basic step-up equipment.

Instructional guides are provided for age-appropriate workouts tailored to various fitness levels and goals.

Mayor Brendan Blomeley said the new park reflects the council’s commitment to being an inclusive and age-friendly city.

“[This] dedicated seniors park will help inspire active ageing and physical independence. The unique equipment and facilities strengthen motor skills, balance and manual dexterity.”

The project was funded in part through a $200,000 grant from the Tasmanian Government and built in consultation with the council’s Positive Ageing Working Group.
