Tasmanians keen to catch a glimpse of the illuminated locomotive can track its movements in real time via the dedicated train tracker website christmastrain.tasrail.com.au.

Introduced in 2021, the website shows the train’s location when in service and provides an approximate timetable.

“As Christmas train fans would know, our lit locomotive timetables can vary due to a number of operational factors,” Dietrich said.

“This site is designed to adjust the viewing times online as our schedule changes.”

TasRail’s Facebook page will also share photos and any urgent safety information relating to Christmas train services.

The Christmas train is a staff-led initiative that has run for several years.
