Beloved Tasmanian rock outfit Luca Brasi will come off hiatus for a special farewell performance as part of the “Last Drinks” series marking the closure of Hobart’s iconic Uni Bar.

The St Helens born band is joining a star-studded lineup of artists scheduled to perform in the venue’s final weeks this June.

Luca Brasi has become one of Australia’s most cherished rock bands, having toured with acts like Violent Soho and Something for Kate, while appearing at major festivals including Splendour in the Grass and Falls.

The Luca Brasi show on Friday 27 June will feature an all-Tasmanian supporting lineup including Dvrkworld, Glass Media and Ema.

Other headline acts in the Last Drinks series include rockers Kisschasy, Sydney drill rap group ONEFOUR and indie duo Old Mervs, each taking the stage during the venue’s final fortnight.

The Uni Bar has served as a cultural institution for generations of music lovers, hosting legendary performers including Faith No More, Public Enemy, Paul Kelly, Cold Chisel and Powderfinger throughout its history.

But after nearly five decades of business, an expiring lease means time’s up.

“It wasn’t a decision that we made,” licensee of six-plus years and Vandemonian Touring boss Brendan Self told Pulse last month.

“We’re just very grateful for the opportunity to be part of the rich history of the Uni Bar.”

UTAS Vice-Chancellor of Campus Life Professor Nicholas Farrelly said the decision to wind up the Uni Bar was related to plans to develop a STEM precinct on the Sandy Bay campus.
