Young surfer Harry Hollmer from Dodges Ferry had a close brush with death while surfing at Shipstern Bluff last Sunday, March 26.

According to reports, 19-year-old Harry was part of a large crew when he took on a massive wave and wiped out, hitting the ocean floor and getting knocked unconscious.

Harry’s father, James, who was on a jet ski nearby, quickly sprang into action when he saw his son face down in the water, unconscious and not breathing.

James pulled Harry out of the water and immediately began CPR, which proved successful as Harry’s body eventually responded and he was brought back to consciousness.

Harry was then taken to Royal Hobart Hospital via the rescue helicopter, where he has been receiving treatment for head trauma and ear damage.

Unfortunately, Harry will need an operation on his ear canal and may lose hearing in his left ear, necessitating the use of a hearing aid.

He is also dealing with chest issues, and the concussion he sustained could result in a loss of motor skill functions and muscle deterioration, not to mention the fact that he will be unable to work or surf during his recovery period.

To help Harry get back on his feet, a GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds for his rehabilitation, medical costs, and loss of income.

The campaign has already received a significant amount of support, with over $30,000 raised already.
