Teen driver charged after allegedly running down person in Launceston carpark

An 18-year-old man has been charged after allegedly striking two pedestrians with his vehicle in a Launceston carpark last week, leaving a teenage girl with serious injuries.

Police allege the man was driving a white Holden Commodore wagon when the incident occurred at the Dan Murphy’s carpark around 11:50pm on Friday.

The teenage girl, who police confirmed is known to the driver, suffered serious leg injuries and was airlifted to the Royal Hobart Hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.

Tasmania Police have charged the driver with assault and causing grievous bodily harm.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident at the Brisbane and Bathurst streets intersection.

Police are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who may have dashcam footage or other video recordings of the incident.

The driver is scheduled to face court over the charges.
