A teenager is fighting for his life in hospital after reportedly crashing his motorcycle into a metal bollard on a bike path in Gagebrook on Friday night.
The 18-year-old rider sustained serious injuries when he collided with the obstacle on a concrete bike path adjacent to the East Derwent Highway shortly after 10pm.
Police had earlier observed the man riding a black Hyosung GT650 motorcycle along the bike path from a distance.
When officers entered the track to investigate, they found the young man lying injured beside the path.
Emergency services quickly responded, with police administering first-aid before Ambulance Tasmania transported the injured rider to the Royal Hobart Hospital for emergency treatment.

Tasmania Police have launched a Professional Standards investigation into the incident, which they say is standard procedure when police are involved prior to such accidents.
Authorities are now appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly anyone who saw the black motorcycle being ridden in the Gagebrook and Brighton areas between approximately 9:45pm and the time of the crash.
“Anyone with dash cam footage or information should contact police on 131 444 or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or crimestopperstas.com.au,” a police spokesperson said.
