Three teenage girls have been charged with multiple offences after allegedly leading police on a dangerous chase spanning more than 65km across southern Tasmania.
The pursuit began in Herdsmans Cove around 4:15pm on Sunday when a white Mitsubishi Magna failed to stop for police.
Authorities allege the vehicle, driven by one of the youths, was then driven dangerously through multiple towns including Brighton, Pontville, Mangalore and Kempton, continuing along the Midland Highway before finally being stopped at Oatlands.
The three girls – aged 16, 15 and 14, all from greater Hobart and known to police – were apprehended after abandoning the vehicle in Oatlands.

All three were arrested and detained to face court on multiple charges including aggravated evade and dangerous driving.
Inspector Luke Horne from Bridgewater Police expressed frustration over the incident, which prompted multiple calls from concerned members of the public.

“It is both frustrating and deeply disappointing to see this level of recklessness continue. The actions of these individuals could have easily led to tragedy – for themselves, for innocent members of the public, or for the police officers working to keep our community safe,” Horne said.
“One reckless moment behind the wheel can end a life and shatter families forever.”
Tasmania Police have appealed for witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage of the white Mitsubishi Magna being driven in the affected areas on Sunday afternoon.
