Temperatures across Tasmania set to soar to 30°C+ today ahead of wet weather

Temperatures are expected to climb past 30°C around much of Tasmania today ahead of potential thunderstorms and flash flooding later in the week.

The Bureau of Meteorology are forecasting temperatures in the mid to high 20s, with some areas reaching over 30°C.

New Norfolk is in for a top of 32°C on Tuesday, with Huonville, Richmond and Brighton in for 31°C.

In the north, Launceston is expected to hit 27°C and Devonport 24°C.

It is likely that the current record for the warmest day of the year, which stands at 31.6°C from Launceston on January 3rd, will be overtaken.

Weather conditions will shift on Wednesday as a cold front accompanied by rain moves across the state, resulting in 10 to 20mm of precipitation in most areas and the potential for thunderstorms.

Showers are also forecasted for Thursday, but temperatures will remain average to slightly above average.

Forecast

Hobart is in for a sunny 29°C on Tuesday, followed by showers with a top of 24°C on Wednesday. Showers will continue for the rest of the week with a top of 23°C.

In Launceston, Tuesday will be partly cloudy with a temperature of 27°C, followed by showers and a top of 26°C on Wednesday. Showers will continue on Thursday with a top of 23°C, before clearing to a partly cloudy 27°C on Friday.

Strahan in the west will be mostly sunny with a top of 27°C on Tuesday, but rain will set in on Wednesday with a top of 23°C. Showers will continue for the rest of the week with a top of 22°C.

In Swansea in the east, Tuesday will be mostly sunny with a temperature of 27°C. Showers are expected on Wednesday with a top of 24°C, and rain will continue for the rest of the week with a top of 23°C.
