Launceston roads are temporarily being monitored by a network of small cameras as part of a traffic survey.

The Department of State Growth says the cameras are being used to gather data on vehicle movements across the city.

The survey began on key travel routes on Monday and will continue over the coming days.

“The traffic survey is a routine exercise to provide us with updated information about vehicle movements and helps inform future urban transport planning and projects,” the department said.

“We don’t have access to any personally identifiable information as a result of these surveys.”

The data collected will be used to understand traffic patterns, identify areas of congestion and inform decisions about future projects.
