Friendly Beaches on the state’s east coast reached 34.9°C at 1:18pm, Campania hit 33.6°C at 12:46pm and Hobart recorded 29.5°C at 12:10pm.

Authorities earlier warned of high fire danger across much of Tasmania today, implementing a statewide ban on issuing permits until 2am on Thursday.

Deputy Chief Officer Matt Lowe issued the plea following several separate bushfires that nearly reached evacuation level in recent days.

“I urge the community to be aware that current weather conditions, combined with a dry landscape, means that any fires lit … could spread easily and be dangerous and difficult to control,” he said.
