Thick black smoke billows as Derwent Park building goes up in flames

Dense plumes of black smoke have engulfed the sky over Hobart’s northern suburbs this afternoon as firefighters battle a large blaze at a commercial property in Derwent Park.

The fire broke out at a workshop on Lampton Avenue, sending visible smoke clouds across the area and prompting an immediate emergency response.

Tasmania Fire Service has deployed multiple crews to the scene, with two units from Hobart and one from Glenorchy currently working to contain the blaze.

A TFS spokesperson confirmed the fire appears to be concentrated in a garage area situated at the rear of the property off Lampton Avenue.

Witnesses reported seeing the black smoke billowing high into the air, visible from several kilometres away across Hobart’s northern suburbs.
