A number of bronze plaques have been stolen from Arthur Square and Pioneer Avenue in New Norfolk in an incident the local council says is “extremely disappointing”.

Two plaques from the Arthur Square Early Settler Wall, the sundial and the Queen’s Jubilee plaque were taken overnight on Tuesday.

Thirteen were also life from nearby Pioneer Avenue.

The Derwent Valley Council estimates the total value of replacing the stolen plaques will be around $7,000.

“This is not only extremely disappointing for the community but also another impost on council resources to report, follow up, and replace,” a council spokesperson said.

“If you live near any of these locations and have security camera footage that may have captured anything that would help identify those responsible, or if you know or suspect anyone who may have been involved, please let us know.”

They said the theft has been reported to police.
